DISCOGRAPHY (Part 1) | ||||
This page is a "Work in Progress." We plan to present a history of the musical efforts of the members of ORPHEUS REBORN that is as complete as possible. In most cases, copyright issues will prevent us from posting complete performances. We will, however, post sound clips from them if they are available. Some of these performances have been reclaimed from media that has suffered from age or use, and thus may not be of optimal quality. Writers, publishers and copyright acknowledgements have been presented when known. March, 2010, set a new record - almost 34,000 plays for the sound clips on these pages! Click on the blue song titles to hear YOUR favorites! Each play "casts a vote" for that song in our Monthly Top 75 Chart! All clips and songs are in .mp3 format.
Because of the volume of material and information, we've found it necessary to split this archive into several pages, and to provide navigation aids like the map below.

The Minute Men Personnel: Dave Beaber - vocals, 6- and 12-string guitars; Jack McKennes - vocals, guitar, banjo, "upright" string bass; Eric Gulliksen - vocals, guitar, "upright" string bass Note that The Minute Men included the same personnel as the Wanderers (see above); the group's name was changed for this album to avoid confusion with another group that existed at that time. Album Title: Hootenanny (a Folk Song Fest); Folk Festival (later reissue) Recorded: June, 1963 Location: WKBR, Manchester, NH Producers: Jimmy Parks, Dixon DeVore II Engineer: Marty Sidman Release information: This album was recorded for Strand Records. The company went out of business before it was released, and these performances were lost. In 2000, we located Dixon DeVore, who had a battered test pressing (all of us believed that this was the only copy of the album in existence). Mr. DeVore was kind enough to transfer it to CD for us, and actually issued an "archival release" on his Cricket Power label. Several cuts received air play in Europe and Asia. In 2006, thanks to Tom Zagryn, we discovered that the album had been issued in the mid-60s as a vinyl LP on the Gladwynne label, no. 2011, titled Folk Festival, and were able to obtain an actual copy 43 years after we recorded it. Incredibly, on Jan. 10, 2007, we discovered that this album actually was released on Strand Records as SLS-1090, shortly before the company went belly-up, and prior to the Gladwynne release! It was titled Hootenanny (a Folk Song Fest), which is consistent with our recollections from 1963. We have purchased a copy for the archive. This album represents the first commercial recordings by future Orpheus / Orpheus Reborn members Jack and Eric. Digitally remastered tracks are now available on a Trak12 CD.

Blue Echo Productions This was a partnership between Eric Gulliksen and Tom Zagryn. They produced several 45 RPM records and demos between 1963 and 1965, some of which are presented here. The original reel-to-reel master tapes were located and digitized in October of 2007. We are currently in the process of remastering these, with the ultimate objective of producing a CD release. Clips on this page will be upgraded or added when they have been remastered. The College Boys Personnel: Dave Beaber - vocals, 12-string guitar; Jack McKennes - vocals, "upright" string bass, banjo; Eric Gulliksen - vocals, 12-string guitar, "upright" string bass The College Boys were yet another incarnation of the Wanderers a.k.a. the Minute Men (see above). The Man b/w Song Of The Traveler Writers: Zagryn-Gulliksen Publishers: Palmina Music Recorded: November, 1963 Location: Worcester, MA Release information: The Man was written as a tribute to President John F. Kennedy on the evening of his assassination. By this time Eric had left the Wanderers / Minute Men to pursue opportunities with the Blue Echoes. The folk trio was reassembled the following morning, and recorded these tracks in the basement of a WPI fraternity house, using a monaural Webcor portable tape recorder, two ElectroVoice microphones and a small Radio Shack mixer. The following day, Tom and Eric drove to Philadelphia and placed the recording with Swan Records, which released it internationally as No. S-4166. The group's name was changed in an attempt by Swan to mitigate the impression of a commercial entity attempting to profit from a national tragedy. Digitally remastered tracks are now available on a Trak12 CD. These tracks were released for digital download by Rollercoaster Records in 2006.
